If you already live on Tybee, the last stretch of summer is not the beach. The beach is the constant. The variable, the part that actually organizes an August week here, is a small set of standing weekly rhythms and a handful of dated anchors that most day-trippers never see on the sign at the causeway.
Miss those, and you spend late summer doing what visitors do. Learn them, and the island reorganizes itself into something quieter, cheaper, and closer to the front door.
The two weeks that reorder August
The single event that most reshapes an August calendar for residents is Tybee Restaurant Week, which runs from August 3 through 17, 2026.
August 3 does triple duty. It is the first day of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System year, the opening day of Restaurant Week, and the first August date for the Tybee Island Farmers Market. That combination marks the real turn in the month. Local households return to school schedules while the island’s food calendar stays firmly in summer mode.
The official Restaurant Week listing says participating businesses will feature special seafood, cocktails, desserts, and coffee. It does not yet name the restaurants or publish their menus. Keep the dates open, then check the listing again closer to August before deciding where to go.
Tybee added The Window, Farace’s Finest, Sand Cat Coffee, and The Kelpie during 2025, but none should be treated as a 2026 Restaurant Week participant until the official list confirms it. That distinction matters. A useful calendar separates what is scheduled from what is still developing.
The local planning rule: Build August around the recurring events first. Add one-time concerts, films, and cleanups after the weekly rhythm is set.
Put Mondays on the calendar first
The Tybee Island Farmers Market runs every Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Tybee Island Lighthouse grounds at 30 Meddin Drive. The confirmed August dates are August 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31.
The market brings together local produce, prepared food, and handmade goods. Leashed pets are permitted, and parking is free. That makes Monday evening one of the simplest standing plans on the island. You can stop in without turning the outing into a full South End parking operation.
The schedule continues on September 7, 14, 21, and 28. The September 7 market falls on Labor Day, so verify the schedule before leaving home and account for holiday traffic.

The opening weekend sets the pace
August begins with a useful mix of indoor entertainment and community work.
On Saturday, August 1, China Grove brings its Doobie Brothers tribute to Tybee Post Theater at 8 p.m. The theater sits at 10 Van Horne Avenue in the Fort Screven area.
Sunday, August 2 offers two very different options. The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra presents Broadway to Bourbon Street at Tybee Post Theater from 4 to 6 p.m. Later, Tybee Clean Beach holds its “Dog Days of August Are Here!” cleanup from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
That pairing captures the month’s operating pattern. The Post Theater handles much of the evening entertainment, while Tybee Clean Beach schedules short volunteer windows that are easy to add to a weekend.
The first full week belongs to food and music
Once Restaurant Week and the farmers market open on Monday, August 3, the calendar fills quickly.
The final two Tybee Happy Tie-Dye Tuesdays land on August 4 and 11. Free Yoga Friday returns August 7 at 9 a.m. That evening, Harvest Moon performs a tribute to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Neil Young at Tybee Post Theater from 8 to 10 p.m.
Tattoo You follows on Saturday, August 8 from 8 to 10 p.m. with the music of the Rolling Stones.
The practical play is straightforward. Use Restaurant Week for one or two intentional meals rather than waiting until the final weekend. Put the Monday market on the household calendar. Reserve theater tickets early if a specific show matters to you.
Midmonth shifts toward community events
Tuesday, August 11 has three scheduled choices. Kelly & Company hosts its final tie-dye day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tybee Post Theater offers Savannah Sound Bath Sessions from 2 to 3 p.m. and again from 6 to 7 p.m.
The theater changes gears for the weekend. Legacy & Groove, the Ray Howard Band’s Earth, Wind & Fire tribute, performs Friday, August 14 from 8 to 10 p.m. “Ghosted: Savannah’s Haunted Improv Show” follows Saturday, August 15 from 8 to 10 p.m., combining comedy, ghost stories, mentalism, and live music.
Sunday, August 16 brings the month’s North Beach cleanup from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Restaurant Week ends the next day, Monday, August 17, alongside the weekly farmers market.
That makes August 16 and 17 a clean handoff point. Volunteer Sunday evening, make the final Restaurant Week stop Monday, then finish at the lighthouse market before 7 p.m.
Conservation moves to center stage
The strongest single program in the second half of the month may be The Right Whale documentary and Q&A at Tybee Post Theater on Thursday, August 20 at 7 p.m.
The discussion is scheduled to include filmmakers Cheryl and Nick Dean, representatives from Georgia Conservancy, and the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. The official event page lists pay-what-you-want admission from $5 to $20, with a portion supporting right-whale conservation.
The weekend then returns to music:
- August 21 and 22: Interstellar Echoes, a Pink Floyd tribute, at 8 p.m.
- August 23: The Intracoastal Playboys from 3 to 5 p.m., with a set focused on classic country music.
Free Yoga Friday is also scheduled for 9 a.m. on August 21. That gives residents a morning outdoor option and an evening theater plan on the same day.
Close August with a full final weekend
The farmers market returns August 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. Free yoga is scheduled August 28 at 9 a.m., followed that evening by Run Through the Jungle, a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute, from 8 to 10 p.m.
The Ozark Mountain Daredevils are listed for Saturday, August 29 from 8 to 10 p.m. This show appears on the local Tybee calendar but not on the shorter Visit Tybee event rollup. Check the theater’s ticket page before building the night around it.
Tybee Clean Beach closes its August schedule near the Pier on Sunday, August 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meet at 1509 Strand Avenue. Equipment is provided.
The final August farmers market follows Monday, August 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. That is the last normal Monday before Labor Day weekend changes the island’s traffic and parking pattern.
Labor Day needs a parking plan
The Tybee Island Labor Day Beach Bash is scheduled for Sunday, September 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Tybee Pier & Pavilion. The official event listing describes a free beachfront concert followed by fireworks.
One secondary calendar describes a drone show instead. Use the official fireworks listing for now, but verify the final format before September 6.
Parking deserves the same level of attention. Standard public parking costs $4 per hour and is enforced from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, including holidays. The city reports roughly 2,100 spaces and warns that South End parking becomes especially limited on busy weekends.
A $25 parking day pass provides 24 hours of parking and remains available through September 22. It can be purchased up to 30 days in advance for as many as seven consecutive days. Each pass must be assigned to the date it will be used. For a full-day plan, it can cost less than paying the hourly rate.
The city may establish an emergency lane on U.S. Highway 80 and place barricades along Butler Avenue during peak weekends. Check City of Tybee Island guidance before leaving, even if you make the drive regularly.
The late-summer calendar closes with a practical reset. Tybee Clean Beach holds its post-Labor Day Pier cleanup Tuesday, September 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. Meet at 1509 Strand Avenue. Equipment is provided.
Keep the beach ready for hatchlings
August also sits inside sea-turtle nesting and hatching season, which runs from May 1 through the end of October. The Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project’s trained volunteers patrol each morning for crawls and nests. Loggerhead eggs generally incubate for 55 to 60 days, so exact hatch times cannot be placed on a public calendar.
Residents and guests still have clear responsibilities. Follow “Lights Out on Tybee,” avoid marked nests, fill holes, level sand structures, remove belongings and trash, and reduce beachfront lighting that could disorient hatchlings.
Tybee’s beach rules also prohibit smoking and vaping on beaches and crossovers. Litter must remain contained, and dune vegetation cannot be disturbed. Several violations carry fines of up to $300.
One final date belongs on the refrigerator: International Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Tybee Pier & Pavilion. Tybee Clean Beach organizes the local event as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s wider effort.
A short planning checklist
Before each late-summer weekend:
- Confirm the event time with the organizer.
- Buy theater tickets before assuming seats are available.
- Check weather updates for yoga and tie-dye sessions.
- Review city parking and traffic notices before Labor Day.
- Recheck the Restaurant Week page once participants and menus are released.
- Leave the beach flat, dark, and clear for sea turtles.
